Just about every blogger who wanted to has already commented on this, but there’s something I want to say about it, late though I may be:
Iran said on Saturday it would accept aid from all foreign countries except Israel following the quake. What I want to say is that this is the most exceptional piece of vileness. There are certain hatreds, evidently, that are to be upheld even in the face of the most terrible humanitarian disaster.
The following (via Instapundit) strikes me as broadly relevant, though it is about Europe. It concerns a recent statement from Cardinal Roger Etchegaray:
“There is a return of anti-Semitism in our Europe… Not to recognize it, not to call it by its name is an unwitting way of accepting it.”This, more or less, is what I argued here.
…..
Etchegaray said resurgent anti-Semitism could not be blamed entirely on the fallout from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, noting that the phenomenon had developed in Europe over centuries.
