My eye was caught by Michael’s post about the children’s picture book The Elephant and the Bad Baby, since it’s one of many such books fragments of which are lodged permanently in some part of my brain through my having read them aloud so often. Michael undertakes an in-depth moral analysis of Elfrida Vipont’s tale. I’m not going to make any judgement about the cogency of that analysis, nor even summarize it for you. You can read the whole thing yourself. What I am certainly willing to affirm with all due solemnity, though, is that ‘they went rumpeta rumpeta rumpeta, all down the road’.
