The Brendan O’Neill piece casting doubt on the plastic shredder story, and which first appeared in the Spectator, is reprinted in today’s Guardian. I gave my reaction to O’Neill’s article a few days ago. Tim Blair has also posted a reaction which is sharper than mine, though our two reactions have something in common. Some of Tim’s greater sharpness is expressed thus:
For the sake of argument, let’s assume that this person from northern Iraq was lying, for whatever reason; we pro-liberation types now find ourselves in the utterly humiliating position of having supported the removal of a tyrant who tortured and killed tens of thousands of people (at least), but who didn’t use a plastic shredder.
